Carlingford In The Autumn
Now that the summer holidays are over and the days are getting shorter it’s easy to assume that we would be beginning to wind things down here in Carlingford. This might be the case in many holiday hotspots but definitely not here!
The autumn/ winter season is just as vibrant and bustling as summer here in Carlingford. With numerous events and activities still to come this year, here are our pick of the best things to do I the area over the coming months.
- Escape HQ
The latest addition to Carlingfords activity portfolio is the newly opened Escape HQ. With two rooms specially designed to push your powers of deduction to their limit, this is most definitely one to put on the to-do list. Ideally suited to groups of 2-7 and with no age restrictions in place, Escape HQ is the perfect way for friends, families and even work colleagues to spend an hour escaping from it all.
- Carlingford Leprechaun Cavern
As most people know, Carlingford Mountain is protected under the European Habitats Directive against the hunting of wild animals, plants and leprechauns. What you may not know is that Carlingford is home to the last Leprechaun whisperer in Ireland. The Leprechaun Cavern is an underground cave on the shores of Carlingford Lough where McCoillte, the leprechaun whisperer, will take you inside and tell you the tales of the last leprechauns of Ireland.
- Carlingford Christmas Sale Night
Every year the Carlingford traders get together and put on a discount shopping event in the run up to Christmas. Generally held on the first Tuesday of December, shops are open right up until 10pm and offer discounts of up to 25% on all items on the day…not to mention a tipple or two for everyone coming in! As well as the traders, there are numerous street stalls and live music all around the village creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout.
- Fitzpatricks Halloween Scare-fest
Halloween at Fitzpatricks is an experience you will never forget. Now in its 7th year, the annual Scare-Fest at Fitpatricks is not one to be missed. Themed inside and out with ghosts, ghouls, and things that go bump in the night, there is something to capture the interest of everyone. Try your hand at Pumpkin carving and maybe even win a prize. If you are brave enough, you can take a tour of the haunted house – not for the faint hearted!
This is a free event but visitors are asked to make a donation of their choice to Temple Street Hospital. The event runs for all of October.
- Caravan Of Love Music Festival
The Caravan of Love Music Festival is set to return to Gyles Quay on Friday & Saturday, September 22nd and 23rd.Thanks to an electrifying performance at last year’s Caravan of Love Festival, The 4 of Us return to Gyles Quay and will headline Friday night’s concert supported by James Humston in Fergusons Bar.
Saturday sees a day of live musical performances starting off in the Caravan of Love Marquee with live music from performers including The Paul Bailey Band, Retro Sweet Club, The Stormers and The Nooks.
The Dublin City Ramblers headline performance is supported by the ever popular Crawley Family.
